I’ve achieved my exposure via many routes. The following icons help explain my involvement and appear at the top of each article.
Words
I have to admit to not being the greatest wordsmith. Nevertheless I have contributed to many reports and technique articles.
Interviews
The microphone represents interviews. I personally have been the subject of 5 interviews but who knows, in the future the interviewee many turn interviewer.
Photography
I enjoy working with pro snappers like Jon Carter but I myself have always been a passionate photographer. The camera icon lets you know when I’ve been behind the lens.
Sailing
Most of my portfolio comes from my sailing exploits, be they in competitions, technique demos or just windsurfing for the fun of it. The windsurfer icon lets you know that it’s me hogging the frame!
DVD
There are hundreds of DVDs out there. Here’s a list and description of the ones I’ve been involved in as either a presenter or a sailor.
My time on the water covers so many years and I’m always surprised that someone wants to catch up with what I’m doing. While speed is generally the key theme, over the years the focus has changed every article has a new angle.
Stepping on a windsurfer for the first time I knew competition would figure strongly in my future. I tried all disciplines but it was speed that brought the results I craved. I’ve been fortunate enough to feature in many of the resulting reports, but my favorite competition was against my old mate Peter Hart in a head to head.
This is a real mix of cuttings including press releases, newspaper cuttings, news of world records or my latest crash - but my personal favorite is “sand in the Carburettor…” as it always leaves a smile on my face.
passing interest in photography has recently turned into a serious obsession. Perhaps my intimate knowledge of the sport helps me get that special shot as I know the sailors very well and have a pretty good idea which moves they’ll be lining up for.
A I’m not known as a technique writer. However, I do have a few ‘signature’ moves, which I’m often asked to explain in the magazines in pictures and words. But more recent I’m finding my self the subject of other technique reporters.
Mates, windsurfing and travel can translate into the experience of a lifetime. Being able to share these experiences with fellow windsurfers is a real honour. Taking the photos for travel features is one of my greatest pleasures.
I suppose I don’t cut the figure of your typical model; however, on occasion, designers and manufacturers have seen fit to use me to sell their wares. And thanks to my growing reputation as a photographer, I can now be doubly useful to them.
Back when we did Speed with Style we only had video and the hole process seamed so much harder, but with the ease of today's editing we have seen an explosion of windsurfing DVD's both for entertainment and instruction.
