Only two rounds of speed were completed through the week, the wind angle was nearer to cross shore than off shore down at the speed course, and that was when it was windy. Frustratingly the speed course had seen the optimum wind angle the two days prior to the event. While it was a welcome training opportunity for all, it just exasperated the competitor for the rest of the week.
Back at the top of the beach it was another story, the wind was stronger on the slalom course, but even then there were days when 8m sails were the call of the day. Nearly everyday saw at least one round, and if you just looked at the paper results you’d be excused in thinking that Bjorn walked away with it.
It was good to see the Slalom master at work, but now times have changed and it’s no longer a one horse race. Every leg of every round was hard fought, and no rider was running out front, but it was Bjorn’s consistency that gave him the overall crown.
