We may be flying home, but rather than marking the end, it feels more like a start of something bigger. Alongside our new arrivals from the UK were yet more internationals, this time travelling in from Switzerland and Serbia, plus we had our first repeat as Dave stayed for another week. And what a mixed week, we had everything, onshore wind and waves, flat calm, but more important, a solid force six to put it all into practice.
There’s nothing we can do about the weather, so used the time for some coaching on the simulator. Gybes, tack, etc, but what we didn’t think we’d need was lessons in launching in onshore conditions. Dahab served us with a very rare south wind, and rarer still, two days of it. Reality was its still easy to get off the beach at the Dahabeya Hotel, but any one not wishing to try could go to Harry Nass’s other centre that was protected at the other end of the bay.
Soon as the wind switch to resume normal play, it kicked in with a solid force six that lasted longer than most hands. By the end of play everyone was happy to put the boom down and give the body a rest and re-watch the days action on the video. The next morning it looked like a repeat session, but as the day passed the wind started to ease and retire for the week, leaving us to finish as we started, on the simulator.
The last evening Elke and Harry invited everyone back to there home for a barbeque fit for royalty. The talk was of the future and what was next, but while its early days it looks like next year we already have an eager group ready to go again.
