The Atlantic continues to supply great conditions across the UK, normally I’d have a whole host of pix from the action, but it was too good to be stuck on the shore. I say too good, it didn’t start out that way. After flying out behind the spit at Point Clear the wind disappeared leaving me with a mile long swim, fortunately that turned out to be the exception rather than the rule.
Back on the beach we put the speed kit to bed and spent the rest of our windy looking for waves, a hard thing to do when you live in the south east. Clacton is our best chance, even on a nuclear day like we had on Thursday it still doesn’t come close to the conditions the south cost can offer up.
Shaun an I got to Clacton just before the wind went craze, perfect 5.4 for me on the 3S. Over the last months I’ve been trying to drop the weight which has give me better speed results, but the best bit is its given me access to the smaller boards and more chance to move around in the waves. Would liked to have said “riding” the waves, I’m certainly no wave rider, but like many out there, I love to get involved.
The day ended with me nicking Shaun’s kit when it all went crazy, 4.7 and 78 Pocket Wave, the board was too small but the wind more than made up for it. The phone was never off my ear on the way home, think we only got some of it, several of the guys else where were claming it to be just to windy.
Come the weekend it looked like we’d used all the wind, so I went out to get some pix of my nephews doing some sailing of there own. It may have been sunny, but the temperature dropped and looking at them I’m sure us windsurfers are warmer ever if we spend more time in the water.
Saturday night was Ray Pages birthday, something about being 21 again, but I’m sure it’s been a long time since he’s had an all day party. Actually, the party was to open the new Quayside Windsurfers new shop. Neil and his team have done a great job on the place and looking at the number of people still there at 11pm it looks like a popular move.
Monday morning is looked good for Southend, but a last minute call from Finn Mullen had me heading to Belfast Sunday after noon. Looks like there’s a big swell coming in with wind to match, we all know what forecasts are like so lets wait and see. |
