The record attempt at Southend is gathering pace, can hardly believe how many people want to come. Never thought I’d get involved in organizing events, the amount of work that goes on in the background has surprised me, but now its all falling into place. I headed to Aberdyfi in Wales for the Boardwise demo, though at one point I thought I’d never make it over the mountain pass.
After last weeks accidental bike route you’d think I’d learn there is a right time to turn round, well I’ve finally learnt On the way to Aberdyfi Simon Moore gave me the locals route, trouble is it disagreed with my sat nav. Some how I ended on a one track road and struggling in first gear, steep doesn’t really cover it.
I should have turned round, but the road didn’t look too long on the screen of the sat nav. But then the climb didn’t seem so but once I started dropping down the other side. The rear wheels were only just touching the tarmac and with only half a meter of grass between the van and a drop off that I couldn’t see the bottom off, the side of the van was well and truly pushed into the bank.
When I finally passed through a gate at the bottom I couldn’t resist taking a picture of the sign I must have missed on the other side. “Road not maintained in winter, may be blocked by snow, very steep narrow road ahead”, a great sign and one I wish I’d seen an hour before. I did eventually make it to Aberdyfi in time to catch up with the boys for last orders.
With zero wind all weekend, the pubs was a popular haunt, especially when it came to seeing England go through to the finals in the Rugby. That made getting on the bike at seven in the morning hard work, but what a way to clear the head.
Stopped off a few times to take a few pix, wanted to try a few shots of moving water, some are ok but think the shutter speed was a little too slow and made the water a little too milky, at least I learnt something…
