The weather look started to smile on Monday as temperatures started to rise, but just like some of the faces in the pix, it soon turned as the week ended with snow again. With the kids on school holiday and no wind we headed to Disneyland Paris with the Dunt family, though I wish we’d left a few days earlier, maybe then I wouldn’t have been nursing another broken rib.
Some how I normally injure myself at this time of year, so why i didn’t take last weeks kite disaster as a warning, I don’t know. My first outing on a kite was in Rodrigues, its shallow flat water put in the top few spots in the world with kite surfers. Whilst England may not be as warm or match the beautiful blue waters, but it looks like we have a location that may even surpass the flat water of Rodrigues.
Apart from a couple of sand banks breaking the surface I’m guessing the playground covers more than a couple of miles. As it was dead low tide the water depth dropped down to a couple of inches, a perfect spot to learn, but I guessed there was a bit of a channel closer to the shore as this is where the guys were jumping highest.
I soon found out it had nothing to do with the depth of water, it was just the showoff zone, shame im not ready for that. I was using a smaller kite only figured how much quicker they turn in the air as it powered me into the water. I’ve always thought how hard water is when you hit it. As I landed on my side I would have welcomed a lot more of it, the six inches of water didn’t soften my landing.
I’ve broken enough ribs to know the third day is the worst, but then I should be on a roller coaster with the kids. If you follow super bikes you’ll know there’s some guy who gets them back on the track with days, luckily for me, he’s based just up the road in Ipswich.
I’ve used different people all over the world, but Brian Simpson’s clinic is the best thing I’ve found to keep me on my feet, not that the kids didn’t enjoy my ever wince on the rides.
We joined the Dunt family, Julia, Mark and Jack on the train to France for a two night stay in the park. I’ve always loved Disney and I’m happy to use the kids as an excuse to go. I’m still not sure who enjoys it best me or them, looking at some of the faces, I think its me, but everyone was deafened by Julia’s screams.
It the weather doesn’t get its summer face sorted, I think Julia won’t be the only one screaming; it’s been snowing on and off all day. We should be thinking about summer wetsuits, not snowboards...
