Seven Perfect Days
21/04/08

The weeks started on wheels and ended on water, it’s been a smile a minute week. After a couple of days mountain biking I switched to four wheels and a  trip round Snetterton race track, but as the wind started to pick up we had four days windsurfing and kiting and still had time to get out all the kit for a demo down at Worthing.

This time last year it was twenty degrees warmer, so with the first sign of sun I de-iced the mountain bike for a couple of rides. Good to get back on the bike, but after two long rides I realised it’s always good to take it easy when getting back in the saddle.

I’d promised to take pix of Ray Page’s MG. When I was doing a lot of track days on the bike Ray always came along when we were at Snetterton so I wanted to take my turn in the padock. Ray’s got a proper old MG, so I wasn’t expecting much excitement, but sitting in the passenger seat I got more than a surprise.

He’s got a V8 under the bonnet and was passing almost everything on the back straight but being of an old design, it did lack some cornering finesse, but that only added to the excitement. Thanks for the spin round the track Ray, but I prefer to view the road ahead through the windscreen, not out of the side window.

I had my own little race home as the wind had picked up and the boys were heading down to the beach, a bit light but still enough to go kiting. This is where I have to confess to being a wimp. I wore an impact vest for the next two days, and if you see the way I kite you’d forgive me.

I am enjoying it more than I thought, but with the lack of any one giving us tip’s its down to trial and error, mainly error. The boys let me try it out first, get it wrong and they learn from my mistakes. After two days of getting slapped I was happy to say the wind was back to full strength, windsurfing weather.

Its almost confusing, the east winds are still freezing the hands, but then we’re sailing until eight in the evening which feels like summer. By the time I was pulling out all the kit for Worthing Water Sports demo day on Sunday, the light breeze was almost a relief.

It been a fantastic week, there’s nothing better than sailing until dark, and if the forecast is to believed, this summer feeling could just turn into reality as its set to get warmer… finally.
