Essex at it's Best

There really isn’t anywhere better than home, especially when the when its sunny and windy. It’s rare to get a wave around our coastline, but every year we get a run of easterly winds that more than make up for it. After last weeks excesses its good to be back into the routine of summer, out on the bike at dawn, and windsurfing till sunset.

Last week in Dahab was great, but with the food and drink flowing its all to easy to gain a few pounds, but with warmer mornings it’s a lot easier to get out on the bike. Six thirty is still a bit nippy but a good motivation to push that bit harder.

The true joy in the late evenings, we’ve been able to get out on the water nearly every day this week, but some how it doesn’t matter how early we can get down to the beach, there’s always someone who can get off work that much earlier.

John Skye joined us for one session at Frinton, though a niggling injury kept him on the beach most of the time, good news for us, someone’s got to use the camera. When it comes to injury Nikey Boy takes all the awards as he keeps writing checks his body can’t cash, and this week was on exception.

Before his knee operation he was a good wake boarder, but now we’re kiting he’s confidant enough to put a bet on the result. We have our own set of rules when it come to betting, forget money, its all about Mars bars.

It’s never been about the money, it would have always been a pound or two and really not enough of a pain if you loose, which is why we switched to Mars. Loose the bet and it’s the humiliating walk to the shop, way more painful than pulling a pound form the pocket.

While the kite bet isn’t over, Nik’s quest has taken a set back; Skye Boy only managed to get a couple pix with Nik in. He spent most of the time down wind, and when he did get back up wind showing off was just too much to resist.

I will give it too him, his wake style looks more impressive, but landing on your head does ruin the style, but what really let him down was the blood dripping from his ear. I’m not saying he’s fragile, but the final out come was a fractured scull and leaking fluid from his brain.

Wet ‘n’ Dry had their demo at the weekend. Rain tried to spoil the party on Saturday, but surprisingly we still had a good turnout, but it was Sunday that put it into the legendary demo category.

Blue sky’s, solid wind’s and a barbeque all played their part in making this the demo to beat. I’m keen on doing a few more this year, but also hate the boot sale look with all the kit strune across the beach. Windsurfers understand it, but it’s not likely to attract new people, so I’ve been trying to figure out a stand that’ll show off the kit a bit better. As usual it turned out to be simple is best, just got to make a few adjustments next week and I think it’ll do the job.

I’ve just got one final question. Why the shorts. I’m enjoying the learning experience, but have also been dragged just about everywhere, yet I still can’t find the need to dig out the kite shorts.

Would like to thank everyone for coming and special thanks for the help in with setting up and packing away at the end of the day.
